WHAT IS MIXED MARTIAL ARTS (MMA)?
Traditional martial arts such as Karate, Kung Fu and Judo was introduced to West in 1960s, Bruce Lee introduced the concepts and importance of cross training in martial arts in 1970s. Popularised predominantly since past 25 years, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is the practice of a combination of traditional martial arts such as Thai Boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Karate and more where combatants compete within a cage and win bouts through knockout (KO), technical knockout (TKO), submission and judges’ decision.
MMA has been one of the fastest rising sports in the world for the better part of the last two decades. Over the past decade, with the guidance of Nevada state athletic commissions (throughout the United States), MMA has developed from a spectacle into a highly respected sport with a global audience. It is a mainstream sport that enjoys a massive following from millions of people all over the world in all continents. MMA today is the fastest growing sport with an annual growth rate of 5.3%. The global MMA market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.1% during the forecast period, 2019–2026.
SUPER FIGHT LEAGUE
Established by Bill Dosanjh in 2012, Super Fight League (SFL) is the first home-grown professional MMA promotion in the Indian Subcontinent to produce events worldwide and is the first MMA organisation to feature female fights. With it’s reach in the USA, Middle East and Asia, till date the company has till date completed over 82 live events at a global level. With a clear road map, Super Fight League (SFL) has been methodical in targeting strategic countries in it’s priority territories such as India, USA and Middle East.
2012-2016 the promotion staged 51 events in singular fight nights format in India, USA, Canada and UAE. In 2017, SFL re Launched in league format and since then SFL staged 32 events in league format with a franchise team and USP of point scoring system. The league garnered unique celebrity endorsements from Bollywood, sporting and political ambassadors.
Through it’s promoters, Bill Dosanjh and Amir Khan, two time boxing world champion, SFL is able to leverage off established and strong relationships with the most influential global stakeholders within the Sports and Entertainment sector.
ESTABLISHED IN INDIA; PLANNED GLOBAL ROLLOUT UTILISING A FRANCHISE MODEL
2017, Super Fight League (SFL) relaunched with a new brand identity and statement in league format and staged 16 events in Sony ESPN, followed by second league which staged 15 events in Viacom18’s MTV, Fox Network, Tencent, Sky Television, Eleven Sports, ESPN TV 5 with broadcasting outreach to over 900 million homes in over 50 countries.
Based on the success of India, SFL is in the process of replicating their model globally in League and Singular Fight Night format both in further 30+ countries.
SFL is utilising a franchise-based model whereby franchisees benefit by running a new concept of franchise affiliated MMA specialised gyms and their ability to sub-franchise MMA specialised gyms in addition to other annual income streams.
